Removal of catalyzer

The purpose of a catalyser to burn all harmful gasses before allowing it to escape into free air.
This is however causing back pressure on the engine which is reducing the engine performance and impacting on fuel consumption.
I am planning to remove the internals of this catalyser and re-install just the outer body.
Did anyone do it before and your opinion in this regard?

Thanks
Johan

I've removed Cat's on other vehicles with +- a 15% power gain, obviously higher km's vehicles might gain more if the Cat is blocked

Luckily my Fortuner didnt had a Cat - but I've fitted a 75mm free flow pipe and couls feel the difference in power, quicker pick up and better reaction.

Make sure the Fortuner does not have an lamba sensor after the CAT, otherwise you might get a engine light coming on or need to fit a CAT fooler

Cobus
How does it affect the warranty on the vehicle and will it still give you 15% more if you have a chip in already?

Removal of catalyzer

Catalyzers tend to block up over a period of time - especially when just driving in town. This is choking your engine. By getting rid of this "choking", your engine will get rid of gasses much easier. If you install a free flow system through Toyota, the warranty will not be voided. You will just pay a lot more.
By removing the catalyser, the noise will be a bit "deeper".

In your opinion, is there a significant increase in performance?
Will you do it again with you next Fortuner?
Exhaust noise louder?

Thanks
Johan

Hi Johan
The exhaust is a bit louder but only if you stand at the back you could hear the airflow,
Performance wise much better and you will safe a bit on fuel consumption as well.
Will i do it again with the next one, jip.

I have the 2012 D4D 3L Fortuner, I removed the cat 4 months later and replaced the whole exhaust with a free flow system.
There is no sensor on the CAT even on the latest models so no worries about engine warning lights.
The power and fuel consumption did improve and up until now I had no problems.
