Upgrade drivers licence

Good day all
I want to buy a caravan but only have a code B licence. What is the best route to take going forward? Can I just apply for a code EB or do I need to redo my drivers licence with a caravan hooked up?
Will it be better to go for a bigger licence like a C1 (dont know if it qualifies to pull a caravan).

Anyone go through the process and tips for me? :search:

Hi. I went through the same story.
You cannot upgrade. You will have to redo your learners license and do the road test with a caravan for EB. The road test is exactly the same as normal, but with a caravan. For parallel parking you unhook the caravan, do the parallel park, re-hook the van.
You cannot tow a caravan unless you have a EB, EC or EC1 license.
I personally did the EC (code 14) for a truck. The price for lessons are a bit more expensive, but the driving itself is easier than with a caravan. The yard test is very easy for a truck. And then you can drive a truck...bonus :P

You can...problem does not come with roadblocks or cops, but when an accident happens!

Exactly what I thought. I might have serious issues when involved in an accident.

If you are only planning to tow the caravan you dont need the PDP. Its only when driving a goods truck, bus or passengers.

A lady we know bought a brand new car in November and had a big accident (on her own) in December. Car written off.
No license.
Will be paying for a car she does not have for years to come.

how did she get finance for a car without a license - banks will never give finance if they do not receive a copy of her license! :nono:

As far as I know you dont need a license to buy a car...
What if your rich granny that cant drive want to buy you a car for your birthday?

buying a car cash - license not "really" needed.

financing a car, the bank will ask for a copy of the buyer's ID for finance - otherwise they are at risk, when something like this happens.

never trust autotrader.... :whistling:

https://www.wesbank.co.za/wesbankcoza/foryou/dealer

banks give you the finance, not autotrader.

the other thing we must look into, you finance the car without a license, bank must have proof of insurance before they will payout the dealer - insurance won't give the letter because they do not have a copy of the drivers license. i'm not trying to be funny, always interesting to discuss a topic like this in a civilized manner - many other forums this would already have turned ugly and so on.
