why do some 3.0L d4d models come without towbar?

Title says it all. I found a used one at a good price and then realised it had no towbar. If you didn't occasionally want to tow things, wouldn't you just get the smaller engine? What am I missing? Also, would it be fairly straightforward to get a towbar put on?

thanks!

Maybe it was removed, although not sure if all models came with towbars,
Should be easy to fit a towbar

Yes I think a towbar is a optional extra.
