I have the Rear Air Helpers, they were already installed on the vehicle when I bought it.
I can tell you that when towing the caravan it makes a huge difference.
It lifts the tail about 2 inches with my heavy loaded Regal hooked on (and you know SWAMBO packs everything for a long December holiday), and on road stability is 2nd to none!
If you have the budget I would highly recommend getting rear air helpers fitted for caravan towing.
The Air Helpers fit inside the standard coil spring, and when loaded you pump up to 2.5 bar and it really helps carry the load.
The down side is mine got damaged when the EFS kit was installed so I need to buy new ones :(

The nice part of airbags is that you can increase the pressure to get the vehicle level and carry more load, the problem I have seeing during a trip when puncture you have a problem....

We have a alternative - we have a progressive rear Coil Spring which will give you the comfort when the vehicle is not loaded as many lift coils are harder / heavy duty coils that will give you a hard ride when the vehicle is not loaded but obviously great under load
This is where the Progressive Coils are truly great - it gives the perfect balance of a comfortable ride when the vehicle but then increases in tension as the spring compress under load and able to carry +
150kg under heavy load comparing to the std spring

Attached pic of my Fortuner during our trip to Zim... fully loaded + packed as much wood on the roof rack

Hi Coetzee

I fitted camil shocks to rear suspension works great increase ride height by 50mm , improved rear loading with caravan in tow no more bottoming out of suspension when fully loaded. Handles great on dirt roads. Have not done front will do that when the shocks require replacement

Hi Cobus

What is the cost of the coils, I already have the Amada shocks and am considering fitting the coils?

I have had some good advice and may also drive one or two forum members vehicles to see if there is any difference to mine.

I fitted the standard 35mm lift Amada's in December. What an improvement on handling and stability. It is awesome.

Most suspension upgrades would most probably give the same but I found that Cobus was quick to deliver and to advice on where to fit. I had mine fit in Centurion at Safari centre, on the same day they did an air suspension for another Fortuner.

Thanks Cobus, The Amadas works well and towing is a pleasure.

N.S. Moes ek hierdie in Afrikaans gesê het?
