Bat wing awning

Hi guys,

I'm interested in fitting an Eezi Awn batwing to the Fortuner but have been advised that all of these wing style awnings are not recommended for SUV's with rear doors that lift up as opposed to swinging to one side. The obvious reason as that the rear door will chafe against the awnings when both are opened.

Has anyone fitted such an awning to their Fortuner or found a way to get around the problem at hand?

Cheers guys

Good afternoon Waynef,

I have an Ostrich Batwing Awning on my Fortuner. I am quite happy with mine. Yes, it does pose a problem when opening the rear door. We try to keep the door closed for unforseen circumstances like monkeys, etc. I normally keep the door from chafing while the wife opens the drawersytem for what so ever reason. In rainy conditions and very hot days without trees in sight, it is a blessing. Another way around it is to loosen the hook and swing the awning a little bit back until you can open the rear door. Not something you want to do when the rain pours!

I am very happy with my purchase. The decision is yours in the end.

Can't you make a hook to keep the door from opening all the way to the top

Hi Waynef

I just fitted an Ostrich Wing Awning to my FT. Works brilliantly. I have added a piece of Neoprene foam to the bottom of the aluminum profile that suspends over the rear door so it protects the door when I open it.
These types of awning are very convenient and quick to open and close, which in turn means that you use it more often and gain value for your investment.

Safari 4x4, Goodwood quoted me R7k for the 2.1 metre Eezi Awn Bat wing design. This included fitment.

ek het n ou gesien wat n awning (nie batwing) op sy venter gesit het, maak die kap oop as hy kamp en trek die awning uit, gee hom ekstra skadu by die tente, ipv gazebo
