USB Problems on Radio - 2013 3 D4D

Please can anyone who uses their USB port for music a lot, confirm whether or not they have experienced any problems.

The radio will play the music quite happily for about an hour or so and then go off and until I remove the USB , it will not reboot. Even after taking out the USB and reinstalling, the radio just freezes. All I need to do is the reformat the flash drive and then it will work again for another hour or so.

I have tried different memory sticks and the problem is the same. This does not happen on my wife's Etios, however the local Toyota people tell me that the Fortuner radio is more sophisticated and shuts down to protect itself!!

Morning Dobbs

That doesn't sound right at all.
Being a 2013 take it back to the dealer and let them repair it,
i know in 2011/ 2012 there was a upgrade on the radio that toyota did (reprogramming) The radio was no reason just switching off.

Thanks Grobbies, I will try that, however, before I do, I want to make sure that I have checked everything on my side - right now I am checking every file (song) to make sure that it is not corrupted, should be done by tonight, although it plays fine in the wife's Etios, so will see ?(

Spoke to a Toyota Tech now, You radio needs to be removed sent away for an upgrade and get's re-installed.
They used to do the upgrade there but not anymore.

Thanks again Grobbies for your effort - coincidentally, I just spoke to the service department and they confirmed that the Fortuner radio is more sensitive and that is why I am experiencing this problem - with no disrespect to the guy, but I am not so sure that a vehicle mechanic is familiar with radio equipment?

So what I want to do is to be able to convince him that maybe the radio needs a software upgrade, rather than him just believeing that the fancy Fortuner radio is high tech and is only protecting itself :nono:

Do you have any contact numbers of guys that I can talk to, to get them to speak to Toyota in Empangeni?

usb not playing in fortuner

Mine also stopped playing, I thought the problem is the radio. The problem is when you have a corrupted file, in my case it was mp3 formated folder. I had already booked my car for service, before taking it in, I deleted the duspicious folder and my usb is working. Hope this will help.
