Spiral Cable - recall

Have just taken my Fortuner in for it's service and asked them to check why the hooter has stopped working...
Only to be told that it is the "spiral cable" and is going to cost in the region of R7000 to replace - Are they insane!? :grumble:
(From what I can see on the web there was a recall of this part).

Who else has encountered this problem and what solutions do you have. :dash:

Found a guy in Pretoria north that brings in the cable for around R800 (fitted R1000).

Hi, toyota did have a recall but not sure they still taking cars in for that.

Call up a dealer and give them your vin number and ask if you car is one of the models under the recall. Maybe call two dealers and make sure.

Mine was replaced about two weeks ago at Swakopmund in Namibia @ R 2800.
They did not mention anything about a 'recall'

Jip true - I had mine replaced in the beginning of last year, and was one of the lucky/unlucky ones that had the bad spiral cable recall.

The cable should be done for free regardless of the time that has elapsed. And those costs are crazy. I took mine in and this was the cost and I didn't have to pay anything

I have a 2007 V6 4x4 .....had a service in NOV 2016 at Dealer in Claremont and a recall was done free of charge.......Had my fuel pump replaced at Dealer in Tokai and had the driver side airbag replaced as a recall.......so it seems as if the spiral cable and the airbag is being recalled - no charge!

Chaps, I have a 2012 4x2 with 138K KM on the clock and this weekend the hooter packed up.

Took it in today to Buffalo Toyota and they are hitting me with a R6400 bill to replace the spiral cable!!!

Is this price right? :S

No!
Check that your vehicle is not part of the Toyota recall.

I checked using the app and it says no.

However, my car was one of the first facelift models (Dec 2011, registered 2012) and I suspect that the old part could have been fitted.

Does anyone have the old cable with the partnumber?

Thanks Stekel. They fitted 843070K140 to my car.

I'm looking for the defective part number. Mine is 89245-OK010

I'd like to compare that against the recalled ones.
