Fuel Gauge Not Going To Empty

Hi Guys

Hope all is well and guys are ready to hit December with a vengeance.

Normally when i fill up my tank the gauge shows full and the range shows 700 or 800 kms depending on my consumption. All this is fine. As i drive the fuel gauge decreases and so does the range as expected. but when it gets to quarter tank and the range is still showing 200km or so, I'm actually on EMPTY!!! I've gotten stuck like this....TWICE. Its ridiculous because I'm expecting to still have at least 150km before the reserve light comes on and it just cuts out. I don't ever get a reserve light warning at all. It seems the gauge and range are talking to each other but neither are talking to the actual fuel in the tank.

Maybe the sensor that reads the fuel in the tank is not reading below quarter and perhaps that is the same sensor that feeds the info to the computer that calculates range. its just speculation... Can anyone advise?

Has anybody also had or heard of something like this happening to other fortuners. O and before I forget its a 2012 fortuner 3.0 D4d 4x4 manual.

Regards
Yaaseen

Had a similar issue.

The needle was on the second blue line from the bottom and it was empty.

Turned out that the gauge itself was faulty and they replaced the cluster.

All sorted out now

2012 Tuna as well.

what YM said or the floater in your fuel tank itself could be faulty! ?(

replacing the cluster will be expensive - filling up when the tank when it hits half mark will also sort the problem. :vain:
