Thanks Rooster, I wasn't sp much worried about health issues due to the leak, more about damaging the compressor pump by running it dry. All good though, I managed to bond some steel putty epoxy over the leak which will hopefully hold for the trip south, and have found a new pipe assembly from a breakers yard

Nope - the leak is outside the vehicle, very slim chance of you breathing in the aircon gas - the unit is sealed and unless the leak is inside the cabin the gas should not be issue for the occupants.

Thanks Breekbeen, so the air i'm hearing coming out is actually the AC gas? And the oil is the compressor oil that is in the system yes?

Ah thank you! I've just tried running engine with aircon off and no more venting of oil or air. Presumably if I were to keep running it whilst driving, that oil would run out and cause damage yes....? To the aircon system I mean. I could still drive a 1000km without it running and be ok yes?

Oil and air leak found but not sure what.....?

Hi everybody and thank you for accepting me into the forum.

I bought a 2007 4.0 4x4 last year and it has been a phenomenal machine carrying me and alot of stuff back and forth to Mozambique where I live. I just noticed a small clear oil leak when I had my head under it yesterday and found it was coming from an aluminium hose attached to the slightly smaller/thinner radiator in front of the main one. The pipe had been hard up against a piece of support frame and over time worn through. When the engine is running there is a bit of oil coming through with quite a bit of air, misting oil really. When I shut the engine down, just air venting out for some time.
Is this the transmission oil cooling system?? (see attached pics)

Being in Mozambique at the moment I'm needing a temporary fix until I get back to SA end of the month. Any thoughts and info from wiser fellows on here regards how serious this is and whether I can patch this temporarily would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave
